About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Luton at 21 King St, U Grubego offers an authentic Polish dining experience that beautifully captures the warmth and richness of traditional Eastern European cuisine. Specializing in hearty, soulful dishes, this charming restaurant invites you to savor a diverse menu that promises generous portions, bold flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.

The culinary highlight of U Grubego lies in its masterful preparation of iconic Polish favorites. Imagine sinking your teeth into a perfectly golden Filet Panierowany (chicken schnitzel) — tender, crispy, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and fresh salad, a combination praised by regulars like Natalia Nuckowska for both its satisfying portion and wallet-friendly price. For those seeking a warm, comforting start, the rich and aromatic Chicken Soup or the earthy, tangy notes of Żurek Z Jajkiem (sour rye soup with egg) offer a delightful prelude to the meal.

U Grubego’s menu is a treasure trove of Polish culinary gems. The Karkówka w Sosie Kurkowym (pork neck in chanterelle mushroom sauce) delivers a perfect harmony of tender meat and luscious, creamy sauce, while Golonka Na Kapuście Zasmażanej (pork knuckle on braised cabbage) showcases indulgent, slow-cooked flavors that leave a lasting impression. For the adventurous palate, dishes like Mielone Z Dzika Z Kluseczkami w Sosie Kurkowym (wild boar meatballs with dumplings in chanterelle sauce) bring unique depth and a rustic charm not often found outside Poland.

The dining ambiance at U Grubego matches the food’s authenticity. The warm, inviting interior is enhanced by the soft glow of traditional décor, creating a cozy setting that encourages relaxed and enjoyable meals. Patrons like Adam Drobniczak appreciate the casual vibe where one can even enjoy a dinner while watching Polish films on TV — a charming touch that connects diners to the country’s culture beyond just the plates.

Excellent service further elevates the dining experience here. Customers consistently highlight the friendly and attentive staff who strike the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine warmth. From punctual service to helpful recommendations, U Grubego ensures every visit feels personalized and cared for. Marcin Malecki’s words resonate: not only are the prices reasonable and the portions ample, but the drinks are “absolutely stunning” in both presentation and flavor — a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality in every detail.

While parking can be a challenge due to the central location, this minor inconvenience is easily outweighed by the culinary and hospitality rewards inside. David Waggott’s enthusiasm about the enormous portion sizes and authentic flavors reflects a broader consensus — U Grubego is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Polish fare in Luton.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning fan, U Grubego offers a heartfelt slice of Poland through its food and atmosphere. From the comforting stews like Sauerbraten to specialty plates such as Pstrąg Smażony Na Maśle W Całości (whole trout fried in butter), every dish carries the soul of a cherished culinary tradition. For a truly fulfilling and authentic Polish dining adventure, U Grubego stands out as a beloved local gem poised to welcome you with open arms and a table full of flavour.

Nice traditional polish food with a lovely service. Good prices, big portions. For the chicken in breadcrumbs + mash + salad I’ve paid 11£ plus winter tea something around 3,5£

This was first time we went to eat there and we were positively surprised. Prices of meals are reasonable, can't fault the portions and service was timely. Food was good and we all enjoyed the meal. Drinks look absolutely stunning and they taste as good as they are served - well worth trying. We will be returning for sure! Only downside is lack of parking, but that can be said about all city centre restaurants.

I would recommend this Restaurant, need to take one star as previously experienced that staff closed before 7 pm. Nevertheless good decision to come back following day as service, food quality and generosity of portions are amazing.
